Pablo Picasso’s Homme et femme nus led the evening, which realised £12,464,250. Well priced works drew lively bidding in the room, while The Landscape of a Mind: A Private Collector’s Surreal Vision reinforced the appeal of works fresh to market. Great results were achieved for works on paper, including Liegender Mädchenakt by Egon Schiele (£1,271,250), over six times its estimate, and Hannah Höch’s Er und sein Milieu (£635,250). Henri Lauren’s Homme à la pipe saw international competition, achieving £1,691,250, and there was continued interest in the Surrealist market, including Yves Tanguy’s L’Extinction des espèces II, which realised £3,131,250.
