ART MARBELLA, which celebrates its fifth edition from July 30 to August 3, 2019 at the Palace of Fairs, Congresses and Exhibitions of Marbella, will have among its curated projects the exhibition Through Time, by Violeta Janeiro, who is one of the most prestigious Spanish independent curators in today’s art scene.

Olmo Blanco, 2018.

Violeta Janeiro brings together four artists who pursue a time that rejoices in the now. The selection is composed by the following artists: Olmo Blanco from Galería Metro(Santiago de Compostela); Juan del Junco from Galería Isabel Hurley (Málaga); Nuno Sousa Vieira from Espacio Olvera (Seville) and Liu Dao from Pantocrator Gallery(Suzhour, Shanghai, Barcelona, Berlin).

This project starts from the premise that Western cultures base their development on the idea of progress that takes advantage of and maximizes performance over time that is conceived as linear and progressive. The artists that are part of Through Time suggest new ways of relating to the present; through the exercise or activity that allows them to return to themselves, to become aware that we are time.

Violeta Janeiro (Vigo, 1982) has worked as a curatorial fellow at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, was cultural manager of the Consulate of Spain in Shanghai with the AECID and has been assistant curator in the Spanish Pavilion of the 57th Venice Biennial. Her work revolves around practices of a collaborative nature. It reflects the possibilities of a community through projects that explore alternatives in the production, reception and channeling of art.

ABOUT ART MARBELLA

The fifth edition of the biggest Marbella event with modern and contemporary art raises a new concept of fair in which the spaces of the galleries will be rethought to avoid the characteristic coldness of the classic stand, with the purpose of showing works of art in a space similar to the one they will find in the habitat of their future collectors.

This new concept comes from the hand of two prestigious interior designers, Sergio Sánchez Pardo and David Jiménez García, from Deseesedesign, who have conceived a space for the enjoyment of art with large common areas and intimate stands, so that the experience surrounding the art, the beauty and the appreciation of the environment, on the part of visitors would be complete. Both Sánchez Pardo and Jiménez are also responsible for the artistic direction of MARBELLA DESIGN FAIR, which will be held from July 4 to 15 of 2019 at the same location.
