About Repetto and its Cendrillon Ballerina

The story begins in 1947. Heeding the advice of her son Roland Petit, who was a dancer and later became a French ballet company director and choreographer, Rose Repetto started to design her first ballet shoes in a tiny workshop located very close to the National Opera of Paris where her son trained at the Paris Opéra Ballet School.

While making ballet shoes for her son, Rose Repetto came up with the idea of a unique manufacturing process: “stitch and return”. The sole is sewn inside out “before being turned out”, which results in an unmatched comfort and flexibility. Soon many dancers began to order her high quality ballet shoes. The legend of Repetto was born.

In 1956, upon the request of movie star and trained dancer Brigitte Bardot, the first Repetto flat ballerinas were designed according to the “stitch and return” technique used for the ballet shoes.

Brigit Bardot immortalised the Repetto carmin red flat ballerinas, named “Cendrillon”, in the movie “And God Created Women” (“Et Dieu créa la femme”) with Roger Vadim in 1956.  Since then, the Cendrillon is the iconic shoe of Repetto. Soon, many women, including numerous stars, couldn’t resist the appeal.

For over 70 years, Repetto is a name synonymous with luxurious comfort for not only ballet dancers, but also active “fashionados” all over the world who seek style and the ease of movement inspired by dancers and are also interested in the inspiration behind the design.
