Belgian Nu-Disco Music Producer & DJ AEROPLANE to Feature His Unique Sound at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental’s ‘MO Sound-Bites’ on 18 May Inbox x

Producer and DJ Vito de Luca, known as Aeroplane, is the latest groundbreaking artist to take the stage at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong’s ‘MO SOUND-BITES’ electronic music event on 18 May, with his distinctive analog house sound, complemented with an opening act by DJ Re:Flex.

Known for his extravagant remix of French house and Balearic beats, Aeroplane’s disco-style maximalist performance playfully flirting with kitsch has made him a favourite of BBC Radio 1 and artists like Grace Jones and Cut Copy.

Born in Belgium to Italian parents, De Luca trained as a classical pianist and guitarist, but at 19 he opened his own record shop aged and quickly made a mark with Aeroplane’s first single, Caramellas. He then released several Beatport-charting EPs, embarked on a new ‘sample-house’ project called FLUSH with Defected Records, launched an acclaimed collaborative group called Metroplane with Alex Metric, and teamed up with Purple Disco Machine and Aloe Blacc for a single released on Spinnin’ Deep.

On world-wide tours, de Luca has performed at Coachella 2014, TomorrowWorld 2015, Made in America 2015, NOS Alive Festival 2015, Space Ibiza Resident DJ Summer 2015, CRSSD 2015 & 2016, Splash House 2016, and was Glitterbox Resident DJ Summer 2017 so he has touched down on every continent except for Antarctica in the past two years.

De Luca’s latest chart-topping recording is Love On Hold on the Glitterbox label.

“Aeroplane is the fastest way to get any party started so this one-night event is going to be one to remember,” says The Landmark Mandarin Oriental’s General Manager Archie Keswick. “We are very pleased to welcome an artist of his caliber to our MO Sound-Bites series.”

MO SOUND-BITES Presents Danish Electronic Musician Be Svendsen at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental

MO SOUND-BITES Presents Danish Electronic Musician Be Svendsen at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental

The first ‘MO SOUND-BITES’ electronic music event of the year on 23 March at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong is set to the biggest and most dramatic yet, featuring avant-garde artist Be Svendsen’s unique, mesmerizing visual performance that defies trends, breathing a fresh new life into sounds that hint at ancient nomadic stories, the familiar and obscure.

“The music should ultimately connect you to a bigger picture. The goal is to express and convey a feeling, and to behold the moment – the essence of oscillating between a smile and a tear,” says the genre-bending Danish musician whose unconventional, pure sound delivers a fusion of the playful and the ironic, with syncopated beats, rendered vocals, world-music, a-typical sampling and live instrumentals, synthesized by the meditative qualities of repetition.

The artist’s first swept onto the global electronica music scene in 2011 with an extraordinary solo performance that led to live festival performances at Portugal’s BOOM, Fusion, Burning Man, AfrikaBurn Symbiosis, and tours through Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia and Africa.

His innovative ‘Tarantino Techno’ sound – a world away from conventional electronic music – is an eclectic blend that skirts the digital for the low-fi with the musician at the forefront mobilizing Tribal-tech, field-teased vibes, woozy Arabic melodies via a rusty spaghetti-western soundtrack that evokes the deserts and planes of the classic American west. It’s playful, yet profound, euphoric and somber and an experience to remember.

“The music should ultimately connect you to a bigger picture,” explains the desert-circus-shaman-cowboy artist.  It is, he adds, “in some way a celebration of chiaroscuro – the light and dark – of existence.”

Immerse in Be Svendsen’s performance with MO Bar’s newest, upgraded Amadeus sound system designed for a full-range music reproduction complemented with special lighting effects by Visual System.

MO SOUND-BITES presents Be Svendsen on 23 March 2018.  Doors open at 9pm. Tickets on sale now at Ticketflap at HK$300 per person.  Tickets at the door at HK$350 per person.  VIP Tables for four are available on limited basis at HK$2,000 per table, table is including 4 access tickets.
