The largest German festival for photography returns to Berlin. EMOP Berlin, presented by Kulturprojekte Berlin Gmbh in cooperation with C/O Berlin is the Berlin art week major highlight, which aims to Strengthen the international photography scene exchange information, ideas conversations and support young artists. Featuring international photographers, curators, media experts, archivists, and publicists. Panel discussions, workshops, discussions, presentations, and performances 120 exhibitions and 300 events in over a hundred cultural institutions will kickstart this year’s edition of EMOP Berlin.  EMOP Berlin will play host to two flagship exhibitions Back to the future. The 19th century in the 21st century.  Curated by C/O Berlin and initiated by the Fotografiemuseum of Amsterdam. Featuring work by contemporary artists Matthew Brandt, Spiros Hadjidjanos, Thomas Mailaender, Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs, and Johan Österholm and places them in dialogue with works from the 19th century (Anna Atkins, Karl Blossfeldt, and Warren de la Rue. These artists use 19th-century techniques, styles, and methods to capture the 21st century. 

C/O Berlin has also curated a second signature exhibition  “Nicholas Nixon. Life Work.“ This retrospective focuses on the concept of time and sisterhood. Nixon’s famous series “The Brown Sisters” with portraits of his girlfriend Bebe together with her three sisters in the summer of 1975.  Taking pictures of the girls every year since that evoking a sense of deja vu and showcasing the passing of time and life.
